There is a lot of fishing in the Egyptian waters, but the fishing fleet of Egypt itself is small. President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi took the initiative to set up a fishing fleet for Egypt with more than 100 trawlers. Suez Canal Authority issued a tender for the construction and delivery of 34 Vessel Flake Ice Machines for the first part of this fleet of trawler boats, each with a capacity of 5T ice per day. Recom successfully tendered this prestigious contract together with its Egyptian agent Amco.

The Vessel Flake Ice Machines, built in the Netherlands, are made of stainless steel 316L and equipped with a Pre-sea water chiller. This chiller brings seawater from around 30 degrees Celsius to 10 degrees, as a run-in for the ice machine.

The trawlers were built by Timsah Ship Building, Ismailia, along with four other local shipyards. Recom installed and commissioned the first 8 machines on location at Timsah, after which Timsah and its partners further installed the other 26 machines. Amco will carry out maintenance on the machines in the coming years.

In April 2021, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi proudly launched the first series of ships (see video). The Recom ice machines are now sailing through the Egyptian sea waters and collectively make 170T of sea water ice per day.
